Apple Invites & Privacy

Apple Invites allows iCloud+ subscribers to create party invitations, manage RSVPs, and create Shared Albums and Shared Playlists for their Apple Invites. Apple processes information about your event and invitees, such as the event name, location and guest RSVP details, in order to send and display event details to guests.

Apple Invites is designed to protect your information and enable you to choose what you share.

Privacy Icon

  • Apple Invites allows you to create and receive party invitations for exciting moments.
  • You control what invitees see and can make guests require your approval before they can join an event.
  • Apple has access to event and invitee information in order to send and display the event details to your invited guests.

Apple Invites allows you to create unique party invitations, and is included with all iCloud+ subscriptions. Anyone can be invited to an event, even if they don’t have an iCloud+ subscription or an Apple device.

Creating an Event

When creating an event, you have the option to use a generic or custom event background, and add a date and time, location details and description for the event. You can decide whether to display the event cover only to guests who have joined your event in Event Settings. You also have the option to start a Shared Album and Shared Playlist for guests to be able to join and contribute to. Shared Albums and Shared Playlists can only be joined and viewed by guests who have joined your event and who have an Apple Account and, for Shared Playlists, an Apple Music subscription.

Invites and RSVPs

You can choose to invite guests by sharing a link to the event with them. Anyone with that link can access the event details and join the event. You can also choose to send personal invitations to guests. When you send a personal invitation, each person you invite will get a link that can only be used once. You also have the ability to enable Guests Require Approval when inviting guests. If enabled, certain information like the location, event description, and names and responses of other guests will not be visible to an invitee until you approve their request to join the event.

If you receive an invite, you have the ability to edit how you want your name and photo to appear on the guest list. Your contact information is not visible to other guests. If you join an event, you have the ability to leave the event at any time. Once joined, the event remains in the Apple Invites app and is associated with your Apple Account unless you leave the event or the host deletes the event. If you do not have an Apple Account, Apple does not associate the Apple Invites you join.

Applicable Legal Basis for Processing Personal Data

We process your personal data generally for performance of your contract with Apple, as necessary to provide the service and to comply with our legal obligations. Where consent is the appropriate legal basis, we seek it in accordance with applicable law.

Where applicable local law provides, we process personal data as necessary for purposes of our legitimate interests or those of a third party in order to:

  • Help to improve and optimise the Apple Invites app for you and others
  • Prevent fraud and other malicious activity

The data used includes:

  • Event information, such as the title of the event, the date and time, and an event description (if provided)
  • Invitee information, such as the names and RSVP status of invited guests
  • Your use of the Apple Invites app, such as the number of events created and the number of RSVPs
  • Details about your device, such as the device model or browser name

Retention

Apple retains personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, including as described in this notice and in accordance with Apple’s Privacy Policy, or as required by law. When assessing retention periods, we first carefully examine whether it is necessary to retain the personal data collected and, if retention is required, work to retain the personal data for the shortest legal period permissible by law.

An event can be cancelled or deleted at any time. When an event is cancelled, it will remain in the Apple Invites app in case you want to reactivate the event at a later date. If you delete an event, Apple does not retain any information about that event. If you leave an event you have joined, Apple does not retain any information about your association with that event.

At all times, information collected by Apple will be treated in accordance with Apple’s Privacy Policy, which can be found at apple.com/uk/privacy.
