Live Translation on AirPods expands to the EU
Next month, Live Translation on AirPods will expand to the EU, making face-to-face conversations easier by helping users communicate even if they don’t speak the same language.
Live Translation on AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) enables in-person communication across select languages.1 This convenient, hands-free experience is powered by Apple Intelligence and advanced computational audio, making it effortless for people to stay connected — whether they’re traveling to a new place, collaborating at work or school, or simply catching up with the people who matter most.2 Live Translation on AirPods helps users understand and speak with people in another language naturally and effortlessly.
When both people are using AirPods with the feature enabled on iPhone, Live Translation delivers a seamless experience. Active Noise Cancellation helps lower the other person’s voice, making it easier to focus on the translation while keeping the conversation natural. For conversations with someone not using AirPods, users can simply display a live transcription in the other person’s language on their iPhone.
Live Translation is also integrated into Messages,3 FaceTime, and Phone,4 enabling seamless translation whether users are messaging or speaking. Powered by Apple Intelligence, the feature provides real-time translations while protecting users’ privacy with on-device processing.
Live Translation on AirPods is available in English, French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional Mandarin), Japanese, and Korean when using AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2, or AirPods 4 with ANC paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone running the latest software. Live Translation on AirPods was delayed for users in the EU due to the additional engineering work needed to comply with the requirements of the Digital Markets Act.
Live Translation is available for testing starting today through the Apple Developer Program at developer.apple.com, and a public beta will be available soon through the Apple Beta Software Program at beta.apple.com.
