Apple Rolls Out “X For Teachers” Programme Across Europe

PARIS, France - January 7th, 2003
Apple today announced that its “X for Teachers”programme, launched in the US in October, will be rolled out across Europeto all Primary and Secondary school teachers. Mac OS X version 10.2combines a stable and robust UNIX-based foundation with Macintosh’slegendary ease-of-use to create the world’s most advanced operating systemfor teaching, learning and administration.

Mac OS X v10.2 delivers a number of innovative applications and features toteachers, including:
  • Apple’s innovative iPhoto, iMovie and iTunes applications that bring the Digital Hub to the classroom for easy integration of digital media intolessons and presentations;
  • Sherlock 3, Apple’s all-new Internet services tool that makes it easy to find and display some of the most practical and useful information availableon the Internet with a variety of “channels” like dictionary, thesaurus and language translation;
  • Address Book, a central database for student, parent and colleaguecontacts that allows users to enter information just once and access it fromother applications;
  • a new Mail application that features junk mail filtering to identify andflag junk email messages, especially those that contain materialinappropriate for schools;
  • Universal Access includes the ability to magnify the screen, havehighlighted text read aloud, and use special keyboard commands such as mousekeys, sticky keys and slow keys; and
  • unprecedented stability and performance from advanced features such astrue protected memory, pre-emptive multitasking and advanced memorymanagement.

With more than 5,000 native Mac OS X applications available, includinghundreds of education-specific applications, educators have a wealth ofthird party solutions to use in the classroom.
