Apple Announces Apple iLife Educator Awards

MARKHAM, Ontario—April 14, 2003—Apple® today announced the “Apple iLifeEducator Awards” to recognize the most innovative uses of iLife™, anintegrated suite of Apple’s award-winning software for digital music,photography, moviemaking and DVD creation, in the classroom. Teachers thatare creatively using iLife applications to enhance lessons, exceedinstructional standards and meet the needs of today’s students areencouraged to submit their lesson plans for consideration.
“iLife takes advantage of the power of Mac OS X to integrate digital sightsand sounds that inspire learning,” said John Couch, Apple’s vice presidentof Education. “With the incredible success of ‘X for Teachers’ over 400,000more teachers now have the world’s most advanced operating system, givingteachers and students the opportunity to take advantage of the latestdigital tools like iLife.”
The latest version of Apple’s operating system, Mac® OS X version 10.2“Jaguar”, was built with educators in mind and delivers a number ofinnovative new features and benefits ideal for the classroom. From theincredible integration with iLife, to Apple’s legendary ease of use, Mac OSX v10.2 is the perfect fit for today’s classroom.
The “Apple iLife Educator Awards” contest is open to all K-12 district orschool level educators, or pre-service teachers and faculty or staff ofaccredited Colleges of Education located in the United States or Canada(excluding Quebec). Educators can submit curriculum-based projects andlesson plans for consideration beginning today through June 13, 2003.Interested educators can see examples of existing lesson plans, download anentry packet, view a complete listing of the official contest rules, prizesand eligibility requirements and free downloads iTunes® 3, iPhoto™ 2 and iMovie™ 3 at 102.p.syniva.es/education/ilifeawards.
The teacher that submits the lesson plan selected for the First Prize willreceive an Apple 12-inch PowerBook® G4 with a 867 MHz PowerPC processor anda slot-loading SuperDrive™ for playing and burning both CDs and DVDs, aCanon ZR60 Camcorder and a Canon PowerShot A60 digital camera. The school ofthe teacher who wins First Prize will receive a fully-equipped Apple MobileDigital Media Studio with eight Apple iBook® notebook computers withCombo-drives for watching DVDs and burning CDs, AirPort®, Canon digitalvideo camcorders, printers and other peripherals. Prizes will also beawarded for second and third place and honorable mention.
iLife requires Mac OS X version 10.1.5 or later and a Macintosh® with aPowerPC G3 or G4 processor; 256MB RAM is recommended. A built-in USB port isrequired for importing photos to iPhoto from a digital camera and a built-inFireWire® port is required to input digital video from a camcorder. DVDburning from iDVD™ requires a Macintosh equipped with an Apple SuperDrive(DVD-R/CD-RW), and DVD archiving from iPhoto requires Mac OS X v10.2“Jaguar” or later. iMovie requires a display supporting a pixel resolutionof 1024-by-768 or higher.
